Providers CHOICE
The Providers CHOICE Program was developed to reduce the costs of
acquiring and supporting health information technology. Simply put,
Providers CHOICE provides a framework for constructing and supporting
technology in medical offices and rewards offices for making choices
within the framework.
What are the program benefits?
The primary benefit of Providers CHOICE is a measurable, ongoing
reduction of the cost of acquiring and supporting the hardware and
software necessary for health information technology and meaningful use
requirements. In addition to reducing costs, following the Program will
result in greater system performance and the infrastructure necessary
for meaningful use. Program benefits include:
-
Increased systems reliability
-
Lower technology support costs
-
Lower technology acquisition costs
-
Packaged infrastructure models
How does the program work?
Providers CHOICE is built upon a set of standards which have been proven
to reduce the cost of technology support while increasing system
reliability for medical offices. The standards are electronic health
record vendor specific and include the components necessary to support
meaningful use where applicable. For offices in the Program, Peer
maintains the Program standards, coordinates group purchasing, and
provides technology support consistent with the Program’s guidelines.
Prior to joining the Program, a prospective office is evaluated and
awarded an initial efficiency rating. Efficiency is measured across
more than 70 criteria covering all aspects of network, server, desktop,
process, and application infrastructure. The resulting score serves as
a benchmark against which gains are calculated. As the office adopts
Program standards the office’s efficiency rating increases. For
example, the office’s efficiency rating would increase if all desktop
computers meet the Program standard. Offices participating in the
Program may choose to purchase products or adopt policies not included
in the Providers CHOICE standards, but these choices may impact the
office’s efficiency rating. Peer will calculate the office’s efficiency
score monthly and reimburse the office once every 12 months for
efficiency gains made. Reimbursement is in the form of a check to the
office. Additionally, Peer will recalculate the office’s monthly
support fee every 12 months, based on the most current efficiency
score. Offices joining the program should expect technology costs to
decrease yearly.
As an added benefit offices participating in Providers CHOICE also share
in Program-wide efficiency gains. As new offices join the Program, each
office’s portion of the Program’s fixed cost is reduced and all offices
are rewarded with an increased reimbursement.
